Malayalam Alphabet in Indian Sign Language: Book Release and Mural Inauguration at Manaveeyam Veedhi
International Week of Deaf People 2026 | International Day of Sign Languages
As part of the International Week of Deaf People 2026 and the International Day of Sign Languages, NISH is releasing ‘Malayalam Aksharamala in Indian Sign Language’ and inaugurating a wall mural on sign language at Manaveeyam Veedhi, Thiruvananthapuram.

The International Week of Deaf People is observed this year from 21 to 27 September, and NISH is organising a range of programmes in support of the Deaf community. 23 September is the International Day of Sign Languages. Through the promotion of sign language, NISH works to make communication with Deaf people barrier-free, and thereby to secure equal opportunities and rights for them in education and employment.
As part of this, Shri V. E. Abdul Gafoor, Hon’ble Minister for Social Justice and Fisheries, will release a book containing the sign forms and videos of the Malayalam alphabet, and will also inaugurate the wall mural on sign language at Manaveeyam Veedhi.
The theme for 2026 is ‘Declaration of the Human Rights of Deaf People’ (ബധിരരുടെ മനുഷ്യാവകാശങ്ങളുടെ പ്രഖ്യാപനം).
