Dr. Shirly G is a specialist in deaf education and neural correlation with extensive experience in higher education, accessibility, and disability-inclusive innovation. She holds a PhD in Electronics and Communication Engineering from VISTAS (NAAC A++), an MTech from the College of Engineering, Trivandrum, and a Bachelor’s degree in Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering. She is also ISL ‘A’ Level certified.

She began her career as a Testing Engineer at Sterling Computers Ltd., Chennai, and later served as Assistant Manager (Hardware) at Brahma Softek Pvt. Ltd., Technopark. Joining NISH in 1998, she led the pioneering Diploma in Software Systems for deaf and hard-of-hearing students and later headed HI Degree Programs, helping launch BSc (CS), BFA, and B.Com (HI). Her exposure at RIT and Gallaudet University (USA) supported the introduction of the Preparatory Year at NISH.

She has also served as Management Representative for ISO audits, Assistant Chairperson for NAAC (first cycle), and Director, IQAC. She developed ADVANCEMENTS, a classroom comprehension strategy for deaf adults without early intervention.

Currently, as Head of New Initiatives, she oversees the Training & Industry Placement (TIP) Department and coordinates external training programs. She initiated and served as Chief Editor for three ISBN-accredited academic books published in collaboration with the Department of Social Justice, Government of Kerala. Her work includes conceptualising, designing, implementing, and institutionalising innovative new initiatives in the field of disability for the growth of NISH. She has undertaken funded research projects, published scholarly articles, presented at conferences. She serves as a reviewer for journal papers.

Dr. Shirly introduced NSDC-aligned skill development programs at NISH and continues to expand rehabilitation and awareness initiatives for young adults with diverse disabilities. She spearheaded Accessibility initiatives that enabled NISH to win the State Award for Best Institute for Barrier-Free Environment. She also heads the NISH Interactive Disability Awareness Seminars (NIDAS), a joint program with the Directorate of Social Justice, Government of Kerala, and actively mobilises funds for institutional development.

She has been honoured twice as a Pace Setter of NISH for her leadership and contributions.
