Support in English Spoken Skills (SEPS) is a new initiative by NISH. Any ASLP student of NISH who likes to hone his/her skills in spoken English can use the service of SEPS. The objective of SEPS program is to improve the English speaking skill of students in the college setup, therapy room setup and in work place. Help and guidance provided by staff of English Dept. SEPS commences on 23rd January with an introductory class by Prof. VijayaKumar. Classes will be handled by Ms. Arathi Suvindu assisted by Ms. Souparnika. The classes will be held every alternate Fridays from 3.45 to 4.30 pm.

hrng aidNational Institute of Speech and Hearing,Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala is distributing hearing aids at subsidized rates or free of cost through Assistance to Disabled Persons for Purchase / Fitting of Aids and Appliances (ADIP Scheme), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Govt of India, to people with hearing impairment . NISH has been implementing the ADIP scheme for the past decade and has distributed quality hearing aids to beneficiaries across the length of the state. This has been a boon to many people who were not able to afford hearing aids due to financial constraints. For the present scheme, NISH has been granted an amount of Rs.50 Lakhs through which NISH aims at distributing digitally programmable body level or behind the ear hearing aids starting from December 23rd, 2014 .

Dr. Vinith obtained his BOT & MOT (Mental Health) from Dr MGR Medical University, Chennai, M.Sc., (Counselling & Psychotherapy) from TN University and Ph.D. OT from MVG University, Jaipur.

He holds certifications in Sensory Integration from University of Southern California and Geriatric care from Geriatric Care Society, UK.

He has nearly 20 years of experience in various fields of Occupational Therapy.

He has worked as Lecturer, Assistant Professor in Saveetha College of Occupational Therapy, under Dr MGR Medical University, Chennai.

He was the Head of the Department in Dr Jeyasekharan Multi speciality Hospital, Nagercoil. He served as Clinical supervisor, Clinical Instructor & Clinical Mental health Coordinator in the Ministry of Health, Kuwait.

He was a Course Instructor for Occupational Therapy Psychosocial (Mental health) course for 4th year students in Kuwait University.

He joined NISH in Jan 2021 as Assistant Professor and became Associate Professor & Vice Principal / Head of the Department in April 2022. 

He has research papers published to his credit in reputed journals in the field of Occupational Therapy.

His research interests include Occupational Therapy Mental health and improving “Occupational Participation and Evidence based Practice in Psychosocial function in Children, Adolescents, Adults and Geriatrics populations”.

Mrs. Lynda Mary George (BOT), Consultant Occupational Therapist

Mrs. Lynda George joined NISH as a consultant occupational therapist in 2017. She has over 39 years of experience in both adult and paediatric rehabilitation.
She completed her BOT from Christian Medical College, Vellore and has worked in several hospitals and NGOs. She was the principal of Meenakshi college of Occupational Therapy at Chennai and worked as a Professor at KMCH college of Occupational Therapy in Coimbatore for 11 years.
She has a PG diploma in cerebral palsy and has done an intermediary course in sensory integration.
Mrs. Lynda was one of the team members instrumental in setting up the Bachelor of occupational Therapy course at NISH in 2020.

Joseph Bose H H (B.Sc. BOT, C/SI, C/ISWP, OPT 1&2), Assistant Professor

Mr Joseph Bose has twenty-five years of experience as Occupational Therapist specialized in General Paediatrics, Dysphagia Management, Assistive technology, Sensory Integration,
Seating and Splinting. He has More than 11 years of experience in teaching Occupational therapy students. He worked in Ministry of Health, Kuwait for 22 years and completed his tenure as Superintendent Occupational Therapy. He was part of the recruitment and accreditation team of MOH Kuwait. He has been awarded the exemplary award by MOH, Kuwait.
He completed his BOT from Christian medical college Vellore. He is certified in Sensory Integration from University of Southern California USA. He is also certified in Splinting (Orfitologist), ISWP certified WSP, OPT (1 & 2) etc. He joined NISH in February 2022.
He also worked as honorary (Consultant Occupational Therapy), Mentor and Member of
Innovation team for developing the patented Assistive Technology device AUTICARE for the management of Autism and other developmental disabilities at Embright InfoTech, Technopark, Trivandrum, a part of Government of Kerala Start-up mission.
Mr. Joseph has Presented papers in number of international conferences and publications
in the field of Occupational Therapy.

 

  

 

 

Mr. Gunjan Kumar Upadhyay (BOT. MOT(Neurology), OTMH)  Assistant Professor

Mr. Gunjan Kumar Upadhyay completed his BOT from Pt. Deendayal Upadhyaya National Institute for Persons with Physical Disabilities (Divyangjan) Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities Delhi in 2013 and MOT from Santosh Occupational Therapy College, Santosh Paramedical and Allied Health Sciences Hospital Ghaziabad. His area of speciality is Neurology. He has done a certificate course "Occupational Therapy in Mental Health”, and is certified to administer and score the Montreal Cognitive Assessment, MoCA. He is also Brian Gym movement facilitator.
He has over 7 years of experience as Occupational Therapist. He is proficient in Neurology, OT Neuro-psychiatry & Mental health, Rehab, Neurodevelopmental and Sensory Integration therapy, Assistive Technology, Splinting, Hand function, functional training, Cognitive-perceptual Assessment and management. He also worked with Stroke Rehabilitation & Children with Developmental & Multiple Disabilities.
He has worked for over 4 years as a Junior Lecturer & Lecturer in S. L. Roy Public Health & Research Institute where he was teaching DHLS students under D.Ed. special Education (HI/MR). He worked in National Homoeopathy Research Institute in Mental Health (NHRIMH)/ Postgraduate Medical college, Kottayam, Kerala, Under Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy (CCRH) Ministry of Ayush, Government of India and he was member of expert committee of NHRIMH Research project.
Mr. Gunjan joined NISH in November 2021 as Assistant Professor.

Mrs. Namita Namboothiri (MOT-Developmental Disabilities)Assistant professor/ Clinical Coordinator

Ms Namita has completed her BOT & MOT degree from Manipal University in 2018. Her area of speciality is Developmental Disabilities (Paediatrics).
She has worked with an NGO (UMMEED Child Development Centre) for 2 years. In 2021, she worked as Occupational Therapy Consultant in a project (Hold my Hand) organised by CSR (Catholic Relief Service, a USA based organisation) in Vietnam.
She joined NISH in Feb 2022 and is presently working as Assistant Professor/ Clinical Coordinator.
She is trained in Bayley- 4. She has finished 1st module out of 4 in the Sensory Integration course organised by University of Southern California. She has presented and published a paper in Indian Journal of Occupational Therapy.
