NISH along with the Directorate of Social Justice conducted 'first of its kind' online Interactive Disability Awareness Seminar (NIDAS). The programme was of 2.30 hrs duration with an hour discussion.


The twenty-first seminar dealt with "Speech Language Disability in Children with Epilepsy". This was handled by Ms. Manju Mohan, Speech Therapist, Sree Chithira Thirunnal Institute of Medical Science, Thiruvananthapuram. It was on 15th July, 2017.


This online live seminar hosted at NISH  commenced at 10.30 am. This was simultaneously presented at all the District Child Protection Units (DCPU) offices for audiences present there via the internet.

Tiffany Maria BrarNISH is conducting ‘first of its kind' series of talks for the Public on success stories of people who have overcome disabilities and have become role-models for others in society. These series will also have talks by pioneers and innovators who have gone beyond their call of duty to serve those with disabilities. The talks is conducted in the Marigold Auditorium on NISH campus and is open to the public.

The series of talks is named “NISH Innovations Model – Inspiring Stories” and is conducted periodically.

The third speech of NIM-IS is scheduled for June 23rd 2017 at 9am. The talk will be of one hour duration. The speaker is Ms. Tiffany Brar

Ms Tiffany Brar is an Indian community service worker who has been blind since childhood. She is the founder of the Jyothirgamaya Foundation, a non-profit organization whose stated mission is to help blind. She envisages a society without any physical or psychological barriers towards the blind – a barrier free environment where the blind can walk freely, can travel, can work, think for themselves, and live proud and dignified lives like other citizens. She is striving to bring a change in the society which constantly interpret what a blind person can do and what they can't.

Public are welcome to come to National Institute of Speech & Hearing (NISH), Ulloor-Akkulam Road, Trivandrum- 695017 and attend the talk.

The twentieth seminar dealt with Importance of Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy in Children with Hand Functioning Impairment”. This was handled by Ms. Shyni M.T, Physiotherapist, NISH and Ms Neethu Thampi, Occupational therapist, NISH. It wason 17th June, 2017.

This online live seminar hosted at NISH commenced at 10.30 am. This was simultaneously presented at all the District Child Protection Units (DCPU) offices for audiences present there via internet.

The two and a half - hour programme in Malayalam aims to reach out across the state to larger numbers of parents and caregivers, who are not aware of the implications of disability.

Participants should either have a personal computer, laptop or tablet along with reliable high speed internet connectivity, webcam and microphone.

National Institute of Speech and Hearing  conducted the second session of "NISH Innovations Model – Inspiring Stories" (NIM-IS) for the public at Marigold Auditorium on NISH campus, on April 29th at 9 am.
The one hour session conducted by Dr. Syam Prasad, Assistant Professor in Central University of Kerala, Kasargod. The first of its kind series of talks are on the success stories of people who have overcome disabilities and become role-models in society.
Dr. Syam  shared his inspirational story on how he grew up overcoming cerebral palsy, earned a PhD and went on to become a Professor. He has proved that, with determination, focus and hard work, life's adversities can be turned into opportunities.
