National Institute of Speech and Hearing,Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala is distributing hearing aids at subsidized rates or free of cost through Assistance to Disabled Persons for Purchase / Fitting of Aids and Appliances (ADIP Scheme), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Govt of India, to people with hearing impairment . NISH has been implementing the ADIP scheme for the past decade and has distributed quality hearing aids to beneficiaries across the length of the state. This has been a boon to many people who were not able to afford hearing aids due to financial constraints. For the present scheme, NISH has been granted an amount of Rs.50 Lakhs through which NISH aims at distributing digitally programmable body level or behind the ear hearing aids starting from December 23rd, 2014 .

Dr. Vinith obtained his BOT & MOT (Mental Health) from Dr MGR Medical University, Chennai, M.Sc., (Counselling & Psychotherapy) from TN University and Ph.D. OT from MVG University, Jaipur. He holds certifications in Sensory Integration from University of Southern California and Geriatric care from Geriatric Care Society, UK. He has nearly 20 years of experience in various fields of Occupational Therapy. He has worked as Lecturer, Assistant Professor in Saveetha College of Occupational Therapy, under Dr MGR Medical University, Chennai. He was the Head of the Department in Dr Jeyasekharan Multi speciality Hospital, Nagercoil. He served as Clinical supervisor, Clinical Instructor & Clinical Mental health Coordinator in the Ministry of Health, Kuwait. He was a Course Instructor for Occupational Therapy Psychosocial (Mental health) course for 4th year students in Kuwait University. He joined NISH in Jan 2021 as Assistant Professor and became Associate Professor & Vice Principal / Head of the Department in April 2022. He has research papers published to his credit in reputed journals in the field of Occupational Therapy. His research interests include Occupational Therapy Mental health and improving “Occupational Participation and Evidence based Practice in Psychosocial function in Children, Adolescents, Adults and Geriatrics populations”. |

Mr. Gunjan Kumar Upadhyay completed his BOT from Pt. Deendayal Upadhyaya National Institute for Persons with Physical Disabilities (Divyangjan) Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities Delhi in 2013 and MOT from Santosh Occupational Therapy College, Santosh Paramedical and Allied Health Sciences Hospital Ghaziabad. His area of speciality is Neurology. He has done a certificate course "Occupational Therapy in Mental Health”, and is certified to administer and score the Montreal Cognitive Assessment, MoCA. He is also Brian Gym movement facilitator. |

![]() Dr. Anne has been the head psychologist at NISH since its inception in 1997. She had joined with an MPhil degree in Psychology and received her doctoral degree in 2010. She has the Play Therapy Level 1 Certification recognized by the National Association for Play Therapy India. Her area of interest is Sports Psychology, Disability Sports and Rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities. She was a member of the Sport Psychology Kerala team of the 35th National Games 2015 assigned for athletics, canoeing-kayaking, cycling and tennis teams. She has passed the Diploma in Community Mental Health for Psychologists (2021) and Certificate Course in Basics of Addiction Management (2022) offered by the NIMHANS Digital Academy and the Diploma in Sports Psychology (2023) offered by the LNIPE (ODL), Gwalior. She has initiated several collaborative projects at both national and international levels, including projects with the University of Michigan, School of Information (UMSI) to create the online platform Access Hub for persons with disability in India. She has also been the principal investigator for funded projects by SID, CDC, and other government organizations. |

![]() Ms. Jumin Mary Joseph has done her MPhil in Clinical Psychology from SRM Medical College Hospital and Research Center, Chennai and MPhil in Psychology (Learning Disabilities) from University of Kerala. She had been working in hospital and clinical settings for about 3 years before joining NISH in 2013. She has completed the Teachers Training Program in Learning Disabilities conducted by Madras Dyslexia Association (MDA), Chennai and the Foundation Course on Education of Children with Learning Disabilities recognized by RCI. She has completed the Play Therapy Level 1 certification recognized by the National Association for Play therapy India. Her areas of interest include assessment and management of children and adults with disabilities and mental health concerns. |
